ACKO Travel Index 2023 shows travelers are more concerned about convenience and flexibility

BENGALURU, July 12 (The CONNECT)- After witnessing not-so-exciting years, the travel industry is ready to make a revival with a surge in demand among travelers.

As many as 31% Indians are taking international trips in 2023, a study report by tech-focused private insurer ACKO, in association with YouGov, says.

ACKO Travel Index 2023, surveyed 1000 respondents across seven major Indian cities between the ages of 24 and 45 and identified key patterns of travel consideration among Indians.

Given a surge in demand towards traveling, the report reveals that around 48% of Indians will be allocating an increased budget for their travel in the coming year and 37% will be increasing the duration of the trip, to embark on extraordinary adventures and make the most of every opportunity.

Approximately 71% of respondents are ready to spend Rs 1–6 lakh on their international trips, while domestic travelers would like to spend up to Rs 1 lakh each

Apart from the destinations and budget, the report highlights a significant shift in the behavior of travelers. Now in every aspect of planning a trip, cleanliness is of utmost importance followed by flexibility and convenience. The respondents also wish to avoid being in crowded spaces.

SELF-DRIVE AS PREFERRED

NEW DELHI: Leading transportation solutions provider Avis India revealed that Indians traveling abroad have shown an increasing preference for renting self-drive cars in recent times.

Avis has outlined the global travel preferences of Indian consumers by identifying key trends pertaining to international self-drive bookings in 2022 and 2023.

Indians have increasingly become eager to set off to foreign lands, with an estimated 20 million Indians planning a trip abroad annually. Intriguing insights into the preferences of Indian travelers was revealed by Avis India’s Self-Drive International Booking Trends of 2023, which highlights that the U.S. was the most traversed international self-drive destination for Indians, with a 31% share, followed by U.K., France, South Africa, Italy and Portugal.

Brijesh Unnithan, SVP, Embedded Insurance, said, the survey clearly shows that now travelers are more concerned about convenience and flexibility, and they are ready to spend more for the experience.

“It is great to see that Indian travelers understand the importance of travel insurance and know what to expect from a policy,” Unnithan said.

Travelers are now more conscious about their well-being on a trip and are demanding customized insurance products that match their needs and expectations. They want products which give them confidence that they are sufficiently prepared for any eventuality, he explained.
